Techno grafic arts was an early techno to emerge. It was developed first in amateur studios by "The Belleville Three" (The three of Belleville), a trio of men african-american who went to college at the time, near Detroit, Michigan. The musicians - college friends and mixtape traders who were Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson - found inspiration in Midnight Funk Association, an eclectic, 5 hours, which went on air at dawn on several radio stations Detroit. The program was headed from 1977 until the mid-1980s by DJ Charles Johnson. The program featured heavy doses of electronic sounds like George Clinton, Kraftwerk and Tangerine Dream.
